What’s Cool in Home Design

Whether you’re looking to outfit your new home (possibly in Candela?) or update your current one, these five 2025 home design trends will give your home a magazine-quality look in no time.

2025 Home Design Trends

Earthy Hues

You don’t have to look far to see that earth tones are trending in a big way. Yesterday’s greys are giving way to warm neutrals for floors, walls, countertops, and cabinets. Add interest by mixing these tones with bold, moody colors (dark greens, plum, navy) for instant elegance. Wood furniture and paneling are also going dark, with a walnut finish as a popular choice.

Color and Pattern Drenching

If you want your space to say 2025, consider drenching it with color or pattern. Most effective in a smaller space such as a home office rather than your open-concept family room, color drenching is painting everything — ceiling included — a single color, often one that is deep and dramatic. Pick a room with plenty of molding, which will add depth and highlights.

Pattern drenching is the color counterpart. But rather than taking a single pattern and using it throughout the room, modern pattern drenching is about using multiple, complementary patterns to create a visual feast. Start with a wallpaper and build from there. Make sure to vary the scale and pattern repeat.

Keeping it Natural

One of this year’s most popular new home design trends was also hot last year — biophilic design, which is about incorporating natural elements into your home. Perhaps the easiest — and least expensive — way to start with biophilic design is to open your blinds to let in natural light, which can improve your mood. Adding plants is another easy addition and can improve air quality. Other biophilic design elements include:

  • Use of natural woods, bamboo, and other materials
  • Upholstered furniture and cushions in greens and other colors found in nature
  • Prints or accent walls with vines, leaves, or other nature-inspired patterns
  • Water features or background music of nature sounds

Statement Lighting

Professionals have fully embraced lighting as a design element. This year, expect chandeliers, pendant lights, and floor lamps to be oversized and sporting sculptural, geometric features. Also expect to find table lamps in unexcepted spaces, including kitchen countertops. Whether the light is hanging overhead or perched on a counter or table, they can add pops of color and texture to your overall design.

Board-formed Concrete + Limewash

Designers are edging toward an industrial (but not too industrial) look with two techniques — board-formed concrete and limewash walls. Each is a stylish addition that creates texture, another new home design trend. Board-formed concrete is made by imprinting the grain of wood boards on concrete when it is poured. A limewash is a painting technique that yields wonderful depth and finish. Don’t go overboard — a light touch will deliver the best results. Think of a single accent wall or fireplace surround.
