Explore the museum exhibits and take guided tours of the 1885 Long-Smith Cottage, one of the oldest buildings in the county, and 1883 Moore Home, named to the National Register of Historic Places. Active military and veterans are admitted free. Fort Bend History Association members and children ages 3 and younger are also admitted free.
A Night Out
Take your honey and your besties to Braman Tasting & Taproom for drinks and live music Friday, Aug. 29, or Saturday, Aug. 30. Skinny Kravitz will be playing soulful, funky tunes 7-10 p.m. Friday and The Randy Cobio Duo will play Saturday evening from 7-10 p.m. Cool off with a wine froze or sample Braman’s wide variety of beers and wines.
All Aboard!
Railroad enthusiasts will enjoy visiting the Rosenberg Railroad Museum, where they can see a 1879 railcar, a Mopac caboose, and a railway tower. A miniature garden railroad depicts Rosenberg and the surrounding areas during the 1950s, and the museum gallery describes how railroads impacted the area. The model train room houses two complete HO scale layouts. Docents are on hand to give informative tours. Active military with a military ID are admitted free as are children ages 2 and under. The museum is open Saturday and Sunday but will be closed Labor Day.
Going Way Back at the Zoo
Heading into Houston, your step back in time during Labor Day weekend can continue at the Houston Zoo. The zoo’s Jurassic Giants immersive experience invites would-be paleontologists to trek through a lush forest trail to discover more than 60 life-size dinosaurs, including allosaurus, herrerasaurus, mamenchisaurus, and more. There are also dig sites and photo ops. Presented by TXU Energy, Jurassic Giants is entering its final weekend, with the exhibit ending on Sept. 1.
