What’s On Your End of Summer Activities Bucket List?

The days are getting shorter and the temperatures are cooler. School is back in session and Halloween decorations are lining the shelves. It would be easy to think summer is over. It isn’t. Summer is technically not over until Sept. 22 which gives you plenty of time to create an end-of-summer bucket list filled with activities. Here are some suggestions:

Soak Up the Sun

There’s still plenty of sunshine left so the first item on your end of summer activities list should be soaking it up. Candela residents can make a splash in the resort-style pool. A few sun salutations on our yoga lawn will get you ready for whatever the day throws your way. If you don’t live in Candela (you should look into that), you can head to Katy and Typhoon Texas Waterpark. In addition to water slides, a lazy river, and a wave pool, the theme park hosts a number of exciting events, including a Summer Luau and Country Music Splash Fest music festival.

Gaze at the Stars

Next up on your end of summer activities list should be a little star gazing. The nights are getting cooler making it the perfect time to spread out a blanket and find your favorite constellation. You can do it at Candela, but to see stars, head to George Observatory where you can explore the wonders of the universe during special Saturday night tours.

Visit a Farmer’s Market

Stock up on fresh fruits and vegetables at your local farmers market. Richmond and Fulshear are home to several. The Richmond Farmers Market takes place from 3 to 7 p.m. on the first Friday of the month. The Harvest Green Farmers Market happens from 9 a.m. to noon every Saturday, rain or shine. You can visit the Fulshear Farmers Market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday. All of them offer organic produce, artisanal foods, handcrafted items, and fun.

Host a Backyard Barbecue

It’s never too late to host a backyard barbecue in Texas (plus you want to show off the backyard of your new Candela home, don‘t you?). Start with a theme. It can be anything, but popular ones are beer and barbecue, summer luau, campout, and movie night. Choose decorations appropriate to your theme. Be sure to plan plenty of activities. Lawn games can include horseshoes, corn hole, bocce ball, lawn twister, and more. When it comes to food, why not offer a build-your-own hot dog and burger bar followed by a build-your-own ice cream sundae bar. It’s also the perfect time to try some new recipes. Maybe you can use the bounty you gathered at the farmers market!

Tour Your Hometown

Just because you don’t have time for a road trip doesn’t mean you can’t be a tourist. Explore your hometown! Candela is in Richmond which means you are perfectly positioned for some weekend fun. Start with downtown Richmond. The historic spot offers plenty of unique boutiques, delicious restaurants, art galleries, and pubs. Stop by Sandy McGee’s for sandwiches, salads, and desserts. The Lone Star Saloon is known for its live music and full bar. Fulbrook Ale Works Brewery serves up a selection of Fulbrook beers and exciting events. Love history? Head to The George Ranch Historical Park for some downhome fun. The Fort Bend Museum will tell you everything you ever wanted to know about Fort Bend County. Is there a fashionista in the family? Then you will want to spend a day at Katy Mills.
