Spring is a time for all things bright and beautiful, so it’s no surprise that April is the national decorating month! After all, we’ve weathered the winter, and spring is in the air! As soon as spring cleaning begins, we usually start to think about creating a fresh new look throughout our homes. Fortunately, here at Candela we’re always big on bright ideas, so we’ve combed the internet looking for some of the latest home decorating trends of 2022. We’ve found some that we think you’ll love!

Bold Colors and Beautiful Prints! For the last few years, many of us have spent a lot more time at home, and we’ve gotten bored with beige walls and uninspired color schemes. From the color of our walls to the patterns on our furniture, bold colors and decorative prints are in this year! Whether you’re just creating an accent wall or painting the whole kitchen in a vivid shade, you’ll want furniture and accents that help bring your rooms to life, including custom upholstery and brightly colored window treatments.

Mid-century and Vintage. With a return to bright, bold colors comes a growing desire for vintage furniture. This trend is beautiful as well as practical, with supply chain shortages making new furniture more expensive and harder to come by. Many people are choosing to bypass the local furniture mall and are instead turning to thrift shops to find older furniture and décor pieces that are more sustainable and budget-friendly. You can often find pieces that are filled with character, and they’re usually a perfect centerpiece for any room. Right now, mid-century furniture is in, including highly textured fabrics, ‘70s color schemes, and peg legs on cabinets and tables, to name just a few.

Jewel Tones. Along with bright, bold colors, we’re also seeing a lot more jewel tones in design and décor elements this year, from colors like amethyst, emerald, ruby, and sapphire to gold accents and more. These jewel tones may not be as prevalent as some of the other colors we already talked about, but when it comes to accents, they’re everywhere, helping to transform a simple room into a statement.

Go Green. Sure, when we say “go green” we often mean being more sustainable and energy efficient—both of which are hugely popular right now. But in this case, we mean it more literally. After spending a couple of years in our homes, most of us realize the importance of green space both inside and out. Plants boost our moods and help freshen our air, and it sounds like 2022 will see a whole lot of love for indoor plants, including larger plants in living rooms and kitchens.

Outdoor Living Spaces. Of course, no matter how many plants you bring inside, you can’t beat spending time with Mother Nature. As people spend more time at home, they’re spending more time improving their outdoor living spaces, from patios and balconies to porches and yards. That means more stylish outdoor furniture, for one, but it also means more options for entertaining outdoors, whether that’s outdoor bars, games, or grills.

Artisanal Accents. Along with those thrift store finds, more and more of us are looking to shop local and support small businesses by picking up handmade, one-of-a-kind décor items for our homes. From wall hangings to handmade rugs, you’ll start seeing more of these artisanal items decorating homes in 2022, whether they’re picked up from local sellers or ordered from places like Etsy.

Dual-Purpose Rooms. Over the past couple of years, we’ve all had to find ways to make our homes double as offices, classrooms, and more. This has led to more homes being designed—and renovated—to include rooms that are made to serve a dual purpose. Homes now include bedrooms or even living rooms that double as offices and play areas that can also be homework areas or study rooms for the kids. With these simple innovations, we can make our living spaces work twice as hard for us, so we can relax a little more.

Living with Less. Between supply chain shortages and the general turmoil that has come with the last couple of years, many of us have had to do without things that we would normally have included in our everyday lives. In some cases, we’ve found that we like it. Minimalism is in, and people are decluttering their homes and letting go of the things that don’t bring them joy, to paraphrase Marie Kondo. Ironically, as we learn to live with less, we may find that we enjoy and appreciate the things we have even more.

Quiet Little Spaces All to Yourself. Another side effect of spending so much time at home is the need to carve out a little space in the home that’s just for you. Sure, family time in the living room is a blast, but you need a quiet spot to recharge your batteries now and again. For many people, that means repurposing that guest room—which, after all, hasn’t seen a lot of traffic the last couple of years—into a nook built around a personal hobby. This could be a miniature library, a music room, an art space, or a place to work on your model trains in peace.
